Civic Awareness Act of Florida


The purpose of this bill is to inform residents of the state of Florida about the availability of thefloridachannel.org and how they can monitor proceedings of the Florida House and Senate and related committees online. 


Section 1: Access to the Florida Channel 

The Florida Channel is a statewide television network that provides coverage of Florida government meetings, legislative sessions, and public affairs programming. The Florida Channel is available to all Floridians through cable and satellite providers as well as online streaming.


Section 2: How to Monitor Florida Government Proceedings Online

The Florida Channel website, thefloridachannel.org, offers live and on-demand video broadcasts of proceedings from both the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate. The website also provides committee meeting schedules, agendas and legislation information. To monitor Florida government proceedings online, residents may visit the website and follow the instructions to access live or on-demand video streams of the proceedings.


Section 3: Public Notification

The state of Florida shall provide public notifications, through social media and other mediums, informing residents of the existence and accessibility of thefloridachannel.org. Information on how to use the website to monitor the proceedings of the Florida House and Senate and related committees will also be provided. Billboards, mail cards, and other forms of advertisement are also encouraged.


Section 4: Severability

If any provision of this bill is held to be invalid, the remaining provisions shall not be affected.


Section 5: Effective Date

This bill shall take effect immediately upon passage.
