Bill: An Act to Address Rising Sea Levels and Climate Change in the State of Florida
State of Florida AN ACT TO ADDRESS RISING SEA LEVELS AND CLIMATE CHANGE IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE This Act shall be known and may be cited as the “Florida Climate Change and Sea Level Rise Protection Act.” SECTION 2. FINDINGS AND PURPOSE The Florida Legislature hereby finds that: 1. The scientific community unequivocally agrees that climate change is real and presents a serious threat to Florida; 2. Florida is particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts such as sea level rise, coastal erosion, and flooding due to its low-lying geography, flat terrain, and porous bedrock; 3. These impacts are already being felt in many parts of Florida, and they are projected to worsen over time, putting Florida’s communities, ecosystems, and economy at risk; 4. There is an urgent need for the State of Florida to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to climate change impacts, and protect its residents and infrastructure from the known and anticipated effects o...
